I found true that films awarded with 4 wins and 17 nominations, such as 'Snatch' or awarded with 4 wins and 5 nominations, as 'Ocean's eleven' require an extra consideration. Therefore, I am going to be talking more about these two, as I developed passion for crime movies. According to IMDb(2013) both films ('Snatch' and 'Ocean's Eleven') are a hybrid genre including crime and thriller. Despite, there are evidences in terms of dialogue exchange between characters that both of the movies contain comedy as a sub-genre. It is a tendency for the crime to be the core of the thriller plot, and usually three types of characters are involved: the lawbreakers, the police forces and the victims. In most of the cases the narration is centered on them. Therefore, it can be argued that 'Snatch' and 'Ocean's eleven' follow the same genre structure.
It can be argued that, although 'Snatch' and 'Ocean's eleven' look very similar to a wide look, evidences proved that there is a high difference. Analyzing the style subdivision, it is undoubtedly that the directors Guy Richie and Steven Soderbergh put a stamp on their work. A supporting observation in case, is Alan's Ford (Brick Top) one, according to 'If you are looking five minutes of a Guy Richie movie, you already know is a Guy Richie movie, it's got its own signature'. However, Guy Richie's stamp can be seen in the variety of editing techniques used in fight scenes (slow motion, quick panning). Additionally, 'Snatch' has a plot raised to a very complicate stage there are quick shots, low angle and high angle shots, which increases the voltage of Richie's style, shocks the viewers and break their expectations. Alternatively, "Ocean's eleven" the camera movement is more placid. Another key factor is the overuse of a profane language in 'Snatch', while in 'Ocean's eleven' there is a more cautious language. This can be one of the reasons which according to filmRatings(2013) 'Snatch' was rated with R and 'Ocean's eleven' with PG-13. For instance, although both movies share a comedy genre, the comic tone is more riscue and sharp in 'Snatch' than in 'Ocean's eleven' where the comic line is ironic, but diplomatic. 'Ocean's eleven' promotes diplomacy even in their robbery; they plan the theft rather than go and 'snatch' it.
There is a tendency for crime thriller genre to follow some patterns. For instance, as the work of Bordwell and Thompson(2010) suggests that the plot may center on a tense planned robbery and the plots emphasize smart plans and blockade moves, contort situations which make the audience to reconsider the occurrence of the criminal's success, as in 'Ocean's eleven'. More certainly, according to Bordwell and Thompson the thriller's effects rely on which characters are stressed by the plot and narration. For example, although he/she may follow a wrong line, a criminal protagonist can achieve audience sympathy, leading to public's hope that they will succeed in their crime. Danny Ocean is the typical sympathetic criminal, follow by his partner Rusty Ryan. Alternatively, as Bordwell and Thompson(2010) observed ' Many films whose plots play with story time, are crime thrillers', the crime from the story can appear in the plot, presenting different clues and points of view as in 'Snatch'. Here, comparing to 'Ocean's Eleven', 'there is no actual star of the movie...the movie itself is a star' as Alan Ford, who played the character Brick Top, states in an interview about 'Snatch'.(Youtube, 2009) 'Snatch' appears to follow the pattern 'dishonor-among-thieves', the versions where criminals betray each other.
